Adam Wright, CSCS, the Mission Viejo Diablo’s, Strength and Conditioning Coach, has helped take the Diablo’s Baseball Organization to the Southern Section State Championship and is looking to repeat this trend each year by providing the winning conditioning that help the Diablo players go far and deep into their season.


How do they do it?

It starts with a commitment by the Diablo’s players and is then coupled with smart and effective conditioning that provides “complete” sports conditioning. The problem with most sport conditioning is the one-dimensional nature that focuses solely on the lifting aspect. But, today’s athlete needs more than “lifting” practice. Today’s athlete requires core work, balance, flexibility, strength; speed, agility and injury prevention to compete in sports today. Too many athletes are lost to injury before they had the chance to achieve their potential.

Adam and the team at Fitness Evolution Sport, including Dr. Joe Houde, and Ben Cooke, RKC, bring a total conditioning approach to the Diablo’s strength and conditioning program. And with the addition of on-site batting cages, baseball conditioning at Fitness Evolution Sport is truly complete.

What does that look like?

Step 1: FMS Test.

Each player is taken through an FMS, functional movements screening, a key testing element that pinpoints areas of potential weakness in a players movement so Adam and the coaches can address them early and lessen or eliminate the “weakness” that can lead to injury.

Step 2: Impact testing.
Each player is taken through a series of strength and conditioning tests to determine baseline performance, so progress can be measured and technique reformed.

Step 3: Training.
After each player’s movement and baselines are determined the conditioning program can begin to develop all the major areas of power, strength, speed and agility. The Diablo’s work on a twice a week program with Adam and his staff prior to the season and then work on maintenance and recovery training during the season.

This thorough and effective program produces results the Diablo’s can feel on and off the field. Always working to not just make the Diablo’s better baseball players, but better men, the discipline and habits players learn today is what will make them into the leaders they will be tomorrow.
